The Lord Jesus exhibited His patience with those He taught as He traveled
along the areas of places that brought such attention to His words of life and
attraction to the healings He performed. He drawed crowds from the surround-
ing coast, amazed with such a One Who could turn lives around in mighty ways
beyond explanation. (With all the times some would look for particular signs,
there could be no greater way than what God would do to show His glory in
His Son, Who would bring honor to the Father, than that by the Resurrection
that would take place to give the very hope that people would seek for.) Those
He closely associated with would be privileged to witness such miraculous deeds
of compassion that would go well beyond what anyone could even comprehend
from the normal level of life. With all the needs that are required to sustain life,
the true life giver walking among them alerted them that there was more to be
concerned about than the earthly matters that others were focused on. They
were informed to be aware of doctrine that compromises His true nature.
The provision of food would be an understanding to accept the nourishment of a
greater health to lean upon His promise for life that would last forever. The
thirst they were to have would be for His Spirit that He would pour out on them
in a proportion that satisfies yet would increase. They were to have a longing to
seek Him even more in devotion to His Almighty Presence that would guide
their lives into all truth. They would need to stay steadfast for the work that
would be ahead of them to spread the good news of His love in the promotion
of the gospel. As with all times past and even the warnings that the prophets
of old explained, God’s people needed to exercise the obedience that was
required in order for the favor of blessing to be initiated. God knew exactly
who would follow His commands and who would stay true to His Word.
He would extend His most gracious act of love through His best offer that
could ever be accepted; and that is through His most beloved, His only begotten
Son, God Himself in the flesh in His perfect humanity without ever losing His
perfect Deity. The One and only true, living, Almighty God, Who gave Himself that
we may live! No wonder that Peter’s confession of faith along with others still
rings true today in revelation of God’s love. LaNora G. Means
